A striking signed serigraph depicting Jerusalem by celebrated Israeli multidisciplinary artist Eliezer Weishoff (b. 1938).
Rendered in an expressive palette of warm ochre, cream and black, the composition transforms Jerusalem into an intricately layered architectural landscape. Domes, towers, arched buildings and ancient walls climb dramatically across the hillside, while rhythmic, sweeping lines animate the surrounding terrain and sky. The combination of highly graphic black linework and warm earth tones gives the work a distinctly mid-century modern character.
Born in Jerusalem in 1938, Weishoff studied at the prestigious Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, graduating with distinction in 1958 and later returning to teach. His extensive career has encompassed painting, printmaking, sculpture, posters, stamps, coins, medals and major public commissions. Jerusalem and its surrounding landscape figure prominently throughout his body of work.
This example is signed by Weishoff at the lower left and presented under glass in its vintage black metal frame. The reverse retains a Gregorie Gallerie custom-framing label from Cleveland Heights, Ohio, providing additional period provenance.
At 27.25 inches wide, the work has excellent decorative presence and would be particularly strong in a modernist, mid-century, eclectic or Judaica-focused interior.
The work is executed on a visibly woven, fabric-like support rather than conventional smooth paper. It has not been removed from the vintage framing for further examination.
