Dynamic signed abstract portrait attributed to Peter Robert Keil (German, b. 1942), presented in its warm-toned wood frame.
The composition features an expressive, highly abstracted human face constructed from dramatic sweeping black lines over energetic passages of orange, yellow, red, pink, blue and green. The spontaneous brushwork, exaggerated facial features and graffiti-like linear treatment are characteristic of the Neo-Expressionist vocabulary associated with Peter Keil.
The painting is signed at the lower left with a fluid signature appearing consistent with examples associated with Keil. The work appears to be executed in acrylic or mixed media on board and retains a wonderfully immediate, spontaneous quality.
Keil became known for expressive portraits and figures characterized by intense colors, rapid brushwork, distorted forms and graffiti-like elements.
A striking statement piece for a Modernist, Postmodern, Neo-Expressionist or eclectic interior.
