This is a charming vintage Chinese Huali (Rosewood) jewelry box, delicately inlaid with Mother-of-Pearl (MOP) on the lid.
The lid features a highly auspicious design of two happy children (representing the classic Chinese motif of "Children at Play") flanking the Chinese character "Fu" (福), which means Good Fortune and Blessing. The figures are rendered in iridescent mother-of-pearl with vibrant painted details in blue, green, and yellow.
The front of the box is secured with a beautiful, aged brass lock plate with a swing clasp. The wood boasts a rich, reddish-brown color with gorgeous natural grain patterns and a polished sheen.
