Generously scaled late 19th- to early 20th-century French Louis XV–style bergère armchair crafted in carved walnut.
The chair features a tall upholstered back, enclosed upholstered sides, shaped open arms, a carved floral crest, and elegant carved legs with scroll detailing. Its unusually broad 37-inch width and generous 21-inch seat depth give it a substantial, gracious presence characteristic of late-19th- and early-20th-century seating.
The walnut frame displays attractive hand-carved detail throughout, including the floral crest rail and carved scrollwork at the legs and arm supports.
The chair was professionally reupholstered approximately 30 years ago and fitted with a generously filled loose down seat cushion. The striped upholstery is in shades of cream, beige, taupe and soft gold.
The upholstery now shows noticeable discoloration, spotting, fading and general wear and would benefit from professional cleaning or reupholstery. The walnut frame retains an attractive aged finish with scattered scratches, rubs and other wear consistent with age and use.
A handsome antique statement chair with beautiful proportions and a substantial carved walnut frame, well suited to a living room, library, bedroom or sitting area.
