The vessel is modeled in the form of a jaguar with a broad open bowl, raised head and tail, and hand-painted geometric decoration across the exterior.

Entirely handmade, the piece has subtle variations in form, surface and decoration that reflect its individual craftsmanship. The stylized animal form gives the vessel a particularly strong sculptural presence, allowing it to function equally well as a decorative bowl or freestanding art object.

The Waujá, also known historically as the Waurá, are an Indigenous people of Brazil’s Upper Xingu region in Mato Grosso and are especially celebrated for their highly developed ceramic tradition.
