A wonderfully imaginative studio ceramic art mug by artists Steven McGovney and Tammy Camarot, signed and dated 1997.
The sculptural vessel stands on three whimsical, individually modeled feet, each embellished with a different geometric pattern. Its hand-painted surface combines cobalt blue, green, plum, ochre, black and white in a lively composition of diamonds, spirals, checks, stripes and free-form lines. The angular black handle is finished with colorful sculptural accents.
McGovney and Camarot are known for their exuberantly painted tabletop ceramics and one-of-a-kind sculptural works. This distinctive piece exemplifies their playful approach, combining functional pottery with Postmodern and Memphis-inspired design.
