Antique Sino-Tibetan Gilt-Bronze Crowned Bodhisattva, Possibly Early Qing Dynasty, 17th–Early 18th Century
An elegant antique Sino-Tibetan gilt-bronze figure of a crowned Bodhisattva, or possibly a crowned Buddha, modeled in a serene seated posture on a finely cast double-lotus pedestal.
The deity sits in padmasana (full lotus position), with the right hand raised in vitarka mudra, the traditional gesture of teaching, explanation, and spiritual discussion. The left hand rests open in the lap in a calm, meditative pose. The figure wears an elaborate five-pointed diadem, richly detailed necklaces, earrings, armlets, and flowing robes.
Small turquoise-colored and red stone inlays accent the crown points and necklace, adding color and visual richness to the dark, warm bronze and remaining gilded surface. Fine robe folds are visible on the reverse, demonstrating careful sculptural work on all sides. The figure is hollow cast; the underside of the lotus base retains a small access opening consistent with traditional construction.
The original gilding has naturally worn over time, creating a beautiful contrast between the remaining golden surface and the deep brown-to-dark bronze patina beneath. A compelling devotional object for a collector of Himalayan, Tibetan, Chinese, Buddhist, or Asian antiquities, and a striking display piece for an interior with antique, eclectic, or scholarly character.
Style: Tibetan / Sino-Tibetan / Himalayan
Materials: Gilt bronze, mixed-metal alloy, stone or glass inlays
