Antique French carved giltwood mirror, circa 1800–1820, in the transitional Louis XVI–Directoire style. The substantial architectural frame features richly carved foliate and acanthus ornament, beaded molding, and corner rosettes beneath a deeply patinated gilt finish. Retains its original-looking aged mercury-silvered mirror plate with extensive foxing, oxidation, and silver loss that give the glass a distinctive timeworn character. The substantial oak plank-constructed wood backing further speaks to its early French construction. A large, highly decorative period mirror with strong architectural presence, ideal for a Parisian, château, traditional, or collected interior.

The frame has a beautifully aged, layered gilt finish with areas of darkened patina, wear, and exposed underlayers that give the piece considerable depth and character. The original antique mirror plate remains in place and displays extensive natural foxing, oxidation, and age-related silver loss, producing a dramatic, timeworn surface.
