The piece is close cropped on the woman's face, with a bold red and blue background framing her. The brush strokes are bold and colorful, making her face appear sculpted.

Rosenfeld was born and raised in upstate New York in 1940. Rosenfeld’s parents were both artists. Her father was an architect who also painted in water colors. Her mother, Rosalie, was a painter, as well as a clothing designer and book illustrator. However, she did not begin her own artist journey until she started painting at the age of 30 while living in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She traveled extensively after this, living in Hawaii, New Orleans, and South Africa before settling in California. She holds degrees from Otis Art Institute, Los Angeles and also studied with Joe Magnunai at the the Idyllwild School of Music and Art.

Her paintings are difficult to classify, as they contain both fauvism and expressionist elements in a figurative setting. Her work is painterly and she formulates her own varnishes.

Sarena’s works are exhibited internationally, including Europe and Africa. Cities within the United States in which she regularly exhibits include New York, Honolulu, New Orleans, Los Angeles and San Francisco. See less
