Created in 2022, this sculptural interpretation of a heron combines a simplified organic form with an exaggerated dark walnut beak, inlaid walnut eyes, and slender solid-brass legs.
Rather than attempting a literal representation of the bird, the design reduces the heron's distinctive profile to its essential elements. The elongated beak and gently shaped basswood body create a strong silhouette, while the natural grain and subtle variations in the wood become an integral part of the sculpture.

The warm basswood body contrasts beautifully with the dark walnut details and brass legs, giving the piece a material palette particularly well suited to mid-century modern, Danish modern, organic modern, and contemporary interiors.

Each Milwerk sculpture is individually shaped, sanded, assembled, and finished by hand in the artist's Arkansas studio. The sculpture is finished with Danish oil to enhance the natural character and warmth of the wood.

A distinctive piece for a credenza, console, bookshelf, desk, side table, or display pedestal, either displayed independently or incorporated into a collection of modern art and design objects.
