Offered is a first edition of David Driskell: Icons of Nature And History, published by Rizzoli in 2021. The book was published in partnership with the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, which brought together approximately 60 works highlighting his career. The exhibition surveyed seven decades of the artist’s painterly practice from the 1950s forward. "His command of color and line and attentiveness to the symbolism of form is showcased through his subjects, including the natural world, remembrances of the Southern Black experience, and the Black Christian church." This exhibition also featured works from both public and private collections, including rarely seen works from the artist’s own.
David C. Driskell (b. 1931 - d. 2020) was an American artist, scholar and curator recognized for his work in establishing African-American Art as a distinct field of study. In his lifetime, Driskell was cited as one of the world's leading authorities on the subject of African-American Art.
