Dating to approximately the 1950s, the landscape features rustic chalets, fenced green pastures and a small village church set against towering snow-covered peaks.

The artist used wonderfully expressive brushwork throughout, with the mountains rendered in an especially beautiful palette of deep blue, lavender, turquoise, peach and cream. More detailed treatment in the foreground brings out the warm wood chalets, grazing landscape and architectural details, while the loosely painted mountains create a wonderful sense of scale and atmosphere. I love how it looks like the sun is shining on the top of the mountain peak.

The original hand-painted work is executed on artist's board and is unsigned. It is beautifully presented in a substantial later frame combining richly figured warm-toned wood with dark contrasting molding, a stained gray exterior and a gilt inner border. The frame is particularly handsome and complements the colors of the landscape beautifully.
