Hand-spun wool on a cotton foundation, knotted by hand.

The wool has a soft lustre and a dense, even pile. The taupe ground carries the gentle horizontal movement of hand-spun yarn, giving the field depth rather than the flatness of machine colour, and the palette is deliberately quiet in the ground and rich in the detail.

The pomegranate is the rug's recurring figure — worked in crosshatched rust and ivory, crowned and set upright, and repeated in measured rows down the field between large palmettes and open rosettes on curving vine work. There is no central medallion; the pattern runs evenly to a wide main border of flowering trees, framed by a running vine guard and fine barber-pole stripes. Both ends finish in the original hand-tied fringe with coloured accents.

Hand-knotted with a full even pile throughout, no wear, no repairs, no odour. Selvedges and fringes are intact and original.

Measuring 108 by 147 inches, this is a true 9 by 12 — a room-size carpet that will hold an entire living room with every piece of furniture on the rug, or a dining table for ten.
