Antique Bohemian Jeweled Glass Pocket Scent Bottle Hinged Silver Cap Intact Ground Glass Stopper
Made in Czech c.1890.
Approx. 5 3/8” Long x 1 1/4” Wide x 1/2” Deep.
Beautiful and remarkably complete late 19th-century pocket scent bottle or travel flacon.
Crafted in the historic Bohemian glass-making tradition, this slender, low-profile bottle features a flat 1/2" depth explicitly designed to rest gracefully inside a lady's evening purse or pocket without adding bulk.
The clear glass body boasts four hand-cut beveled corners and features a traditional ground and polished pontil scar on the base, confirming its authentic hand-crafted construction.
The front of the flacon is adorned with surface-applied, foil-backed glass "gems" in emerald green and ruby red.
The bottle is fitted with an integrated, silver-plated brass hinged flip-top cap. Crucially, this piece retains its original, completely intact, unbroken precision-ground glass inner plug stopper—a rarity, as these volatile-oil stoppers are missing or sheared off in the vast majority of surviving examples. The interior of the metal cap still retains its original cork liner disc.
Excellent used antique condition. Clear glass with no cloudiness, chips, cracks, or flea bites along the hand-cut facets. Ground base sits perfectly flat. Stopper is intact and unbroken. Tiny finial handles safely; fits snugly into the ground neck. The hinged cap functions smoothly and snaps shut securely over the stopper. The metal displays a lovely, natural aged tarnish/patina inside and out. All six surface-applied plaques are physically secure. Consistent with a piece of this age, there is visible dark ring discoloration around the borders of the facets from the natural oxidation of the 130-year-old organic adhesive.
