Also known … Read more A striking Danish “Series 186” armchair, attributed to Adrian and Ditte Heath in 1969 for the Cado Collection. Also known as the “Lufthavns-stole,” or Airport Chair, the design pairs a sculptural polished aluminum frame with a generously padded black leather seat and back.

The exposed aluminum construction gives the chair a distinctly architectural, industrial quality, balanced by the softness of the leather upholstery. Designed as part of a modular seating series, it is an excellent example of late 1960s Danish design—functional, beautifully engineered, and quietly bold.

The Series 186 was conceived as a flexible system of seven components that could be arranged in different combinations, reflecting the Heaths’ architectural approach to furniture design. The chair is sometimes attributed to France & Søn, though that company had been acquired by Danish designer and manufacturer Poul Cadovius by the time the Series 186 was introduced, with the collection produced under Cado. Adrian and Ditte Heath worked across architecture, furniture and industrial design, establishing their own studio in Denmark in 1963 and later designing for makers including Cado, France & Søn and FDB Møbler.
