Weiss Presents, distinguished by its sculptural scalloped silhouette, dramatic black ground and eight individually composed wildlife panels.

The mirror’s oval plate is surrounded by a rhythmic, petal-like frame defined by raised gold-finished wooden moldings. Each segment contains its own miniature natural-history scene: an adult leopard and cub reclining across a tropical branch, zebras in an open landscape, a tiger advancing through tall grass, a white cockatoo with yellow crest, animated primates, hummingbirds and other jewel-toned tropical birds. Flowers, leafy branches and dense vegetation connect the scenes into a continuous decorative menagerie.

The reverse-painting technique gives the imagery its particularly luminous appearance. Fine outlines, facial features, feathers, fur patterns and botanical details were painted on the reverse of the glass before the larger areas of color and deep black backgrounds were applied. Viewed through the glass, these layered passages appear crisp, glossy and remarkably dimensional.

The palette is especially successful from an interior-design perspective. Saturated emerald, turquoise, ivory, ochre and russet are held in balance by the black grounds, while the antiqued gold moldings provide warmth and architectural definition. The result is exuberant without appearing juvenile and richly patterned without losing visual structure.

The reverse retains its original paper label reading “robert m. weiss™” and “HAND MADE IN PERU,” together with handwritten production/model code MG20245C.

Robert M. Weiss Presents was a New York decorative-accessories company associated with mirrors, trays, boxes and other hand-painted home objects produced by Peruvian artisans using the traditional reverse-painting-on-glass technique.

The original label directly documents the Robert M. Weiss Presents brand and Peruvian manufacture. No individual artisan’s name is recorded, and the mirror is therefore attributed to the documented company rather than to a separately identified painter.

The numerical portion of code MG20245C appears consistent with nominal catalog dimensions of approximately 20 inches wide by 24½ inches high. The mirror’s measured dimensions are 19½ inches wide by 24 inches high. Because no published Robert M. Weiss coding key has been located, the remaining letters are recorded without speculative interpretation.
