Introduced in 2019, Ester exemplifies Foggini’s extraordinary experimentation with polycarbonate and his ability to transform an industrial material into an expressive, almost ethereal work of functional sculpture.

The chair is formed from countless intertwined strands of translucent polycarbonate, manipulated to create a remarkably intricate, luminous surface. The material resembles spun glass, crystal fibers, or frozen threads, capturing and refracting surrounding light while allowing the substantial form of the chair to remain visually weightless.

Unlike conventionally molded transparent furniture, Foggini’s distinctive process gives the surface an intentionally organic and irregular character. Variations within the intertwined material contribute to the individuality of the piece and are integral to its sculptural appearance.

The generously proportioned shell forms a continuous, enveloping silhouette, with a dramatically folded upper edge wrapping around the sitter. The transparent body is elevated upon a polished metal pedestal with a swivel mechanism, providing a restrained architectural counterpoint to the expressive polycarbonate above.

Ester was presented by Edra as part of its 2019 collection and represents one of Foggini’s particularly sculptural seating designs for the celebrated Italian manufacturer.
