This is a magnificent vintage Chinese silvered bronze incense burner (Censer), standing at 9.1 inches tall and weighing nearly 3 lbs. The vessel features a highly elaborate construction, resting on a matching carved base.
The domed lid is openwork carved and crowned with a seated mythical lion (Foo Dog) finial. The bulbous body is flanked by two impressive elephant head handles with downward-curving trunks. The main panels are decorated with stunning high-relief carvings of galloping mythical beasts (likely lions) among clouds.
