This is a magnificent vintage Chinese gilt bronze statue of Maitreya (The Future Buddha). The figure is seated in the full lotus position (Dhyana Asana) upon a beautifully detailed double lotus throne.
The Buddha wears an elaborate, tiered crown and is adorned with intricate jewelry. The piece features exceptional high-relief engraving (Chiseling) and gold gilding (Nianjin), which has developed a warm, antique patina over time. The face is serene and dignified, with downcast eyes and a gentle smile.
Weighing just over 2 lbs and standing 8.3 inches tall, this is a substantial and important work of Buddhist art. It is the perfect size for a meditation altar, a display cabinet, or as a focal point in a sophisticated interior. A fine example of traditional Asian bronze casting and sculpting.
