This charming sculptural turkey exemplifies the whimsical animal forms and colorful hand decoration for which Kay Finch Ceramics became known. The piece features a beautifully modeled fanned tail and dimensional feathering, finished in a distinctive midcentury palette of soft buttery yellow, turquoise and green, warm brown, amber, and muted cranberry.

Finch established her ceramics studio in Corona del Mar, California, in 1939. Her designs were individually produced and hand decorated by the studio, which became one of Southern California’s notable midcentury pottery operations. The company remained in production until 1963.

A delightful example of collectible California art pottery, particularly appealing for its unusual turkey form. Beautiful displayed year-round as part of a collection of California ceramics, and especially wonderful for an elevated Thanksgiving or autumn tablescape.
