This substantial sculptural menorah is composed of individually modeled ceramic figures representing Jewish holidays, traditions, and daily life. Individual figures are inscribed with subjects including Shabbat, Sukkot, Simchat Torah, Chanukah, Purim and others.
The nine figures are arranged across a long sculptural ceramic base, with the elevated central candle position serving as the shamash.
Lorna Sakalovsky was a Jerusalem ceramic artist known for individually hand-sculpted Jewish figures and elaborate Judaica, including menorahs, Shabbat sets, seder plates, Havdalah sets and chess sets. Because the figures were individually modeled by hand, her larger works have considerable variation and individual character.
This example is particularly desirable for its large multi-figure format, early 1988 date, clearly documented Jerusalem origin, and Design D / Number 88 markings.
A comparable large Sakalovsky figural menorah, Design G No. 104, sold at auction in 2019 for $1,010 hammer plus a 15% buyer’s premium.
Brand New properly fitting Candle Cups included.
