The tall rectangular mirror plate is flanked by a pair of turned columns and surmounted by an impressive architectural pediment. Dentil molding runs beneath the peaked cornice, while the central upper panel incorporates a restrained arched motif that beautifully demonstrates the Biedermeier preference for bold geometry and the natural beauty of richly figured veneers. A second dentil course above the mirror plate provides a handsome visual counterpoint.

The clean lines, classical proportions, and warm honeyed surface give this mirror tremendous presence without feeling overly formal. At just over five feet tall, it makes a wonderful statement over a console or chest and would be equally compelling incorporated into a contemporary interior.
