Make a dramatic, romantic statement in your parlor, dressing room, or entryway with this masterfully curated mid-century French Louis XV Rococo Revival settee. Boasting an incredibly rich provenance, this piece features its original heritage tags documenting a custom upholstery commission completed on March 25, 1969 by the renowned J. Bouckhout Interiors of San Jose, California, for the private estate of Dr. and Mrs. J.J. McConville.
Design Details:The settee features an elegantly curved, exposed walnut frame showcasing a beautifully contoured serpentine camelback silhouette. The crest rail is crowned with a delicate hand-carved cluster of roses, which is mirrored gracefully on the center of the scalloped lower apron. The true sculptural highlights are the dramatic arm terminals, which feature deeply relieved, hand-carved clusters of grapes and lush grapevine leaves cascading down the armrests.
The frame rests upon classic flowing cabriole front legs decorated with floral-carved knees, terminating in their original polished brass ball casters, while the gently splayed back legs retain matching functional casters. The piece is dressed in a sumptuous, high-pile crimson red velvet upholstery that features a beautiful vertical striation, catching ambient light with magnificent theatrical depth.
