While large display cabinets are called curio cabinets or vitrines, this smaller, waist-high piece with a single glass door featuring a lock and key was historically used as an elegant liquor or tea cabinet. Today it serves as an intriguing side table, where cherished items can be displayed…it still comes with a key.

STYLE: This piece dates to the early 20th century (circa 1910-1920) and heavily draws from 18th-century French court styles. The elegant, curved kidney shape table rests on slender, S-shaped legs characteristic of the Louis XV period.

ORNAMENTATION: The inlaid top features an intricate fan or sunburst medallion flanked by trailing floral tendrils. The door frame features matching delicate marquetry using contrasting fruitwoods. The metal accents are cast bronze ornaments in the French style. It features a pierced brass gallery rail around the top rim to keep items from sliding off, decorative corner mounts on the knees and protective metal ornamentation on the front feet.

INTERIOR: The single front door features an organic, wavy glass pane giving a view of the table’s stored contents, framed by a beaded metal trim. The interior is lined with a vintage plush green velvet floor, designed to cushion delicate crystal decanters, cordial glasses, or fine porcelain tea sets, or whatever your heart desires.
