The strong left-to-right directionality of the composition gives the painting a pronounced sense of movement. One can almost feel the gusts of wind that fill the open sails of the far ship and push it forward. The brightly-colored pennants are painted in dashes of heavy impasto, lending even more energy to the scene. There is a small area of paint loss in the top right. Signed by the artist in the bottom right corner. On the back, there is a handwritten note with the painting's original title in French. We believe this to be in good antique condition considering the age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos.
