Description:
Presenting an extraordinary collector's or decorator's item: a beautifully crafted vintage Chinese lacquered wood presentation box containing a pair of highly striking iridescent spheres.
The Box: The rectangular dark wood box is elaborately decorated with raised polychrome (彩绘) carvings of majestic five-clawed dragons chasing flaming pearls, painted in vivid reds, blues, greens, and gold against a dark, aged background. The top lid features central Chinese characters reading "大清皇帝萬壽無疆" (May the Great Qing Emperor live forever), framed by dragons. It features brass hardware and is lined with a fabric interior, designed to hold the two precious spheres perfectly.
The Spheres: These two heavy, perfectly round objects are the centerpiece. They feature an incredibly complex, hammered, honeycomb-like texture and an intense, iridescent metallic finish. Under the light, they reflect a dazzling spectrum of deep purples, blues, greens, and magenta, resembling polished meteorites or mystical "Dragon Balls" (龙珠). Each sphere weighs a substantial 1200 grams (2.65 lbs).
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The box shows minor surface wear, small chips to the lacquer, and patina to the brass hardware consistent with age, adding to its character.
