TESI table set with four "Quinta" chairs, produced by Alias in 1985, designed by Mario Botta
Designed in 1985 by Ticino architect Mario Botta for Alias, the set consisting of the **Tesi** table and four **Quinta** chairs represents an absolute masterpiece of postmodern design. This ensemble goes beyond simple home furnishings: it is a miniature architecture, a statement of style founded on geometric rigor, essentiality, and formal perfection.
An icon of balance, it is distinguished by its structural base in perforated and folded sheet steel that supports a clear glass top. The contrast between the solid perforated mass and the transparency of the glass creates a fascinating visual interplay of lightness and suspension.
Characterized by their black tubular steel frame and perforated sheet metal seats and backrests, these chairs perfectly complement the table, echoing its formal language and geometric textures.
The project fully reflects Botta's signature style, featuring clean volumes, primary forms, and a clever use of light passing through metal perforations.
The visual impact of the Tesi e Quinta set is extraordinary: the perforated surfaces filter and cast graphic shadows on the floor, varying with the changing natural and artificial lighting.
It fits perfectly in industrial-inspired lofts, contemporary living areas, or stately spaces, where it stands out thanks to exposed brick walls and brushed concrete or resin floors.
Despite its strong sculptural character, the transparency of the glass and the perforated metal prevent the space from visually burdening it.
with the Tesi e Quinta set, Mario Botta and Alias have created a timeless composition: a perfect dialogue between material, form, and transparency that embodies all the energy and charm of great 1980s design.
Excellent condition, table glass with a slight chip on one corner, invisible.
The table measures 100 cm. 300 cm x 84 cm wide x 74 cm high.
Each chair measures 45 cm wide, 56 cm deep, 95 cm high, and 44 cm seat height.
