The Campana form—essentially a broad, bell-shaped vessel with an everted rim, narrowing body, and raised socle—has a long history in Italian decorative arts and is closely associated with celebrated classical models such as the Medici Vase.

Each urn is constructed from numerous individually fitted sections of cream, ivory, beige, and honey-toned marble, carefully arranged to create a tessellated, mosaic-like surface. Rather than relying upon carved relief ornament, the decoration is achieved principally through variations in the natural stone itself. Subtle differences in color, veining, translucency, and fossil-like markings give the pale marble body considerable visual texture.

The urns have particularly handsome proportions. A broad, dramatically flared circular mouth projects outward from the body, creating a strong horizontal profile. The wide rim is composed of radial segments of marble whose natural figuring produces a softly variegated effect around the circumference. Immediately inside the rim is a deep, smooth, pale interior well, giving the pieces the functional appearance of monumental planters while retaining the presence of purely decorative architectural objects.

Below the rim, each urn expands into a substantial Campana-shaped body, full and rounded through the upper section before tapering elegantly toward the base. Vertical bands of warmer, strongly figured marble divide broad panels of lighter stone, while corresponding horizontal bands create a restrained geometric framework around the body. The result is almost architectural, with the contrasting marble strips suggesting classical paneling or strapwork.

Especially attractive is the manner in which these narrow bands descend toward the lower body, following its curvature and converging as the vessel narrows. Small elongated, leaf-like details appear near the base of the body, adding a subtle decorative flourish without disturbing the otherwise disciplined geometry.

Each vessel is supported on a short waisted socle, formed with smoothly rounded moldings and rising from a substantial circular foot. The foot repeats the contrasting marble treatment of the upper rim, with richly figured stone arranged around its perimeter. This repetition visually balances the broad mouth above and gives the urns a convincing sense of stability despite their generous scale.

The overall palette is exceptionally sophisticated: warm ivory, parchment, cream, pale beige, champagne, and soft caramel, with darker honey-colored veining providing definition. Because the ornament derives from the marble itself, the surfaces possess a natural depth and variation that cannot be achieved with painted decoration.

Presented as a matched pair, these substantial urns have a powerful architectural and sculptural presence. Their classical Campana silhouettes recall the grand marble vessels traditionally used in Italian villas, palazzi, formal gardens, and neoclassical interiors, while their tessellated construction gives them a distinctly decorative twentieth-century character. Large historic Italian Campana urns were likewise designed as commanding architectural objects, frequently raised upon circular socles and characterized by broad everted mouths and bell-shaped bodies.
