Striking mid-century brass table lamp with an unusual form inspired by traditional Moroccan oil lamps and lanterns. The sculptural base combines a pierced bell-shaped foot, bold hexagonal body and domed upper section, creating an architectural silhouette that is especially distinctive for a table lamp of this period.
Intricate decoration covers nearly every surface. The six-sided body features alternating geometric panels embellished with raised spiral motifs, while a continuous band of scrolling decoration encircles the domed shoulder. The combination of warm brass, geometric construction and hand-worked appearance gives the lamp a wonderful Moorish and North African character while remaining distinctly mid-century.
Its richly decorated brasswork recalls the Moroccan and Anglo-Indian lighting popularized in sophisticated mid-century interiors, including pieces associated with Frederick Cooper, while its exoticism and jewel-like surface also make it a natural fit alongside Tony Duquette-inspired, Hollywood Regency, Moorish, Moroccan, Anglo-Indian, Bohemian and eclectic interiors.
Particularly handsome on a bedside table, library table, bar cabinet or tucked into a collected living room where its relatively compact proportions allow the sculptural base to function almost like a decorative object.
Shown with a simple white drum shade, which complements the lamp beautifully and keeps the emphasis on the ornate base. One photograph shows the lamp with an alternate shade for styling inspiration only; the alternate shade is not included.
Measures approximately 19" H × 10" W with the white shade shown.
Vintage condition with age-appropriate surface wear and patina to the brass, contributing to its character. Please see photographs for details.
