Inspired by the great eighteenth-century furniture designs associated with Thomas Chippendale and the Georgian period, the chairs have been conceived as a substantial formal dining suite, combining decorative splat backs, upholstered seats, straight Marlboro legs, and robust H-form stretchers.

The chairs are constructed of richly toned mahogany, a timber intimately associated with the finest English furniture of the Georgian era. Its warm reddish-brown color and attractive figuring are particularly effective on the broad, sculpturally carved backs, where variations in the grain accentuate the flowing outlines. The polished surfaces retain a pleasing warmth and depth, giving the set the dignified appearance expected of traditional mahogany dining furniture.

Each chair has an exceptionally decorative openwork back, framed by tall, gently shaped uprights. The serpentine crest rails rise and fall in graceful curves, terminating in carved scrolls and enclosing stylized foliate motifs.
