Handcrafted in France from solid beechwood, the piece has an unusually decorative openwork back and an elegant, sweeping silhouette that gives it a strong presence from every angle.
The frame is richly carved throughout with flowering branches, leaves, rosettes, scrolling foliage and classical ornamental details. The openwork back is especially impressive, with delicate carved branches extending outward from a central upholstered medallion. Above, an elaborate carved crest provides an architectural focal point and emphasizes the settee’s grand French character.
Gracefully curved arms continue into the sculpted frame, while the apron is decorated with deeply carved floral and foliate motifs. The shaped legs and detailed feet complete the elaborate composition.
The solid beechwood frame has been professionally refinished in a luminous gold-leaf finish, which highlights the depth and dimensionality of the carving.
The settee has also been professionally reupholstered in luxurious rose-pink velvet. The generously padded seat features deep button tufting, while the upholstered side panels are softly gathered toward their centers for an elegant pleated effect. Coordinating decorative trim follows the edges of the upholstery for a polished finish.
The central medallion on the backrest is upholstered in matching rose velvet, visually tying together the elaborate openwork carving and the plush seating.
