A mountain man in … Read more Signed and numbered limited edition print by Paul Calle (American, 1928 to 2010), titled Interrupted Journey. A mountain man in a red blanket coat and fur cap, feathers tied at the crown, steps out of the timber with a pair of Canada geese slung over his shoulder and a long rifle in hand, a beaver pond and snow-patched meadow behind him. Calle described the scene as a trapper returning to camp after setting his traps near active beaver lodges, the gray sky giving way to sun as his arrival scatters a small flock of early geese.

Hand-numbered 199/1750 in pencil lower left and hand-signed in pencil lower right, with a plate signature and 1990 copyright in the image. Published by Mill Pond Press, Venice, Florida, in 1990 and printed in the USA.

Ships in the original Mill Pond Press folio with the gold MPP seal and title label, along with the original artist biography card, the Interrupted Journey story card, and the Mill Pond Press framing and care insert.

Unframed. Excellent condition with clean margins and strong color. No foxing, tears, or creases. Stored flat in the folio.

Paul Calle designed the 1969 First Man on the Moon stamp and painted for NASA's fine art program before turning to the fur trade era and the American West. His work is held by the National Portrait Gallery, the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, NASA, and the U.S. Department of the Interior. See less
