Description:
Presenting an absolutely breathtaking and incredibly intricate gilt metal covered jar (General's jar / Ginger jar). This piece showcases the pinnacle of traditional jewelry-making techniques, specifically filigree and enameling.
The entire body is constructed from fine, spun gilt wire creating a dense, lace-like network of scrolling floral motifs, divided by raised ribs into melon-shaped sections. The jar is elaborately embellished with vibrant blue and green enamel accents, framing cartouches of lotus flowers and vines. It is further accented with numerous red cabochon stones (simulating rubies) set into flower centers, neck, lid, and base.
The domed lid is surmounted by a finely crafted lotus bud finial. The flared base features a delicate band of red stones and enamel scrolls. Inside the base, the intricate filigree work continues, revealing a square gilt seal reading "乾隆御制" (Made by Imperial Command of the Qianlong Emperor), a traditional reverence mark.
Condition: Excellent condition. The gold-toned filigree is intact and bright. All visible red cabochon stones and enamel accents appear secure and present. No major dents or broken wires observed. Minor surface wear and natural patina are consistent with age and gentle display. Due to the delicate nature of the filigree, it should be handled with care.
With its substantial weight (692g) and incredibly opulent, jewel-like appearance, this jar is a show-stopping statement piece, perfect for a luxurious display in an eclectic, maximalist, or Asian-inspired interior.
