This 66-inch door is a three-plank Nupe piece from Nigeria's Niger River basin, joined edge to edge and braced across the reverse with horizontal timber cleats. What sets it apart is the central plank: a standing human figure carved in low relief with cross-hatched body markings, holding a long tool or weapon-like object in one hand, a genuinely rare motif on a Nupe door, this tradition's carving is almost always animal and object-based rather than figural. Flanking panels carry a mix of wildlife, a quadruped, birds, a reptile worked with diamond scale texture, alongside a dagger or spearhead-shaped blade with a ringed top and geometric lattice fill. The patina is a deep, even brown consistent with genuine age and handling. At 23 inches wide and 66 inches tall, it works as a freestanding wall anchor in an entry or hallway, or as the centerpiece of a grouped arrangement where the figure reads as the natural focal point.
