a fine antique bottle-shaped vase with a bulbous neck, a masterpiece of authentic and historic murano "lattimo" glass, crafted entirely by hand and mouth-blown. This piece stands out for the extraordinary quality of its glass mass, which has an exceptionally dense, milky, and creamy consistency. Its high specific weight reflects the rich blends of glass, rich in opacifiers, typical of the high-quality murano glassmaking of the late 19th century. Structurally, the piece displays a design of rigorous, classical elegance: the smooth, cylindrical body rests on an elegantly stepped shoulder, which forms the base of a slender neck interrupted at the center by a harmonious, bulbous globular swelling, before terminating in a markedly thickened, heat-finished upper lip. A technical and chromatic detail of extreme value lies in the subtle, warm amber and yellowish hues visible at the most flared and heated points of the neck; these are contrasted, along the thin rim of the mouth, by a delicate opalescence that attests to the authentic opaline nature of the glass's chemical composition. The piece is fully attributable to the historic salviati & c. Factory (later c.v.m. - compagnia venezia murano) and can be dated between the late 19th and early 20th century (circa 1890-1910). Although the object bears no engraved signature, a completely standard and common practice for murano art glass of the era, which was identified exclusively through fragile paper or commercial labels, which today, in most cases, have disappeared or been lost over time, the reasons for this attribution are closely linked to the technical history of the furnace. It was precisely the company founded by antonio salviati that rediscovered and perfected the ancient renaissance formulas of lattimo and opalino glass in the second half of the 19th century, presenting them to enormous acclaim at the universal expositions in paris and vienna. The bulbous geometric silhouette, borrowed from antique apothecary jars and historic venetian glass, combined with the distinctive amber-colored thermal reaction of the glass paste, faithfully mirrors the catalog models and high-end production techniques that made the salviati brand famous worldwide at the turn of the century, clearly distinguishing this piece from later, lighter industrial productions or imitations of the mid-twentieth century. Finally, the finish and silhouette of the piece create a sculptural combination of absolute charm, placing this piece squarely within the iconography of the famous "morandian bottles." the purity of the milky white, combined with the essential geometric profile of the bulbous neck, extraordinarily evokes the same metaphysical, silent, and rarefied aesthetic of the bottles depicted by giorgio morandi in his six famous still lifes, transforming a glass artwork into a true sculpture for visual contemplation.
