He was born in Karlshamn and studied at Tekniska skolan in Stockholm, followed by studies in Paris and Stuttgart. His artistic career started within graphic art where he developed his own technique called “The Gabriel method”.

Burmeister’s interest for pottery grew and he worked for a period of time at both Upsala-Ekeby and Boberg’s Faience Factory before he started his own business. In 1925 he acquired Tillinge Faience factory which became the start for Gabriel Pottery. This piece has an attribution mark,
