Standing an impressive … Read more A striking large-scale Scheurich Keramik floor vase, model 248-50, produced in West Germany during the mid-20th century.

Standing an impressive 50 cm tall, this sculptural vase features a rich cobalt-blue ground overlaid with dramatic bands of mottled green, yellow, olive and dark reactive glaze. Vertical moulded ribs run around the body, picked out with subtle reddish-brown detailing and partially concealed beneath the flowing glaze.

The combination of saturated colour, heavily textured glaze and elongated barrel-shaped form gives the piece considerable presence. Its decoration changes continuously around the vase, with areas of pooled glaze, speckling and irregular runs creating an almost abstract landscape effect.

The underside is impressed “248 / 50”, corresponding to Scheurich's form number and nominal 50 cm height.

A particularly decorative example of post-war West German ceramics and an excellent statement piece for a contemporary or collected interior. This piece has an attribution mark,
