a fine vitrified majolica ceramic vase, entirely hand-modeled on a lathe, glazed, and decorated entirely by hand. A masterful expression of the pictorial and sculptural work of master nicola ciavardoni (1923-2016), one of the leading figures in the late 20th-century ceramics scene in albisola. Under the base, the work bears the original mark, brushed in brown underglaze, "n. Ciavardoni / albisola," accompanied by a clear underlining line certifying the piece's direct production in the master's personal atelier after world war ii. The work reinterprets the classic form of the ancient amphora with a distinct modernist sensibility and expressionist accents, enhancing its vertical thrust and combining it with a continuous, 360-degree pictorial narrative. The ceramic body, 31 cm tall and 15 cm in diameter, features extraordinarily elegant structural elements modeled in the round, such as the two lateral handles shaped like swans. The birds' supple necks flow sinuously from the flared lip to the vase's belly, where the subtle wings blend harmoniously with the surface. The painted finish is treated like a free canvas, where the artist applies a concise style with darting, almost impressionistic strokes: the front features a pair of nude figures (female and male) immersed in a natural idyll with quick touches of ochre and brown chiaroscuro, while the back displays a landscape dominated by stylized sacred architecture.
