with its commanding proportions, balanced amphora-inspired silhouette and bold geometric decoration, the vase is a superb expression of mid-century west german studio pottery. Its combination of earthy terracotta, deep black and luminous turquoise creates a sophisticated visual contrast suited to both modern and eclectic interiors.
the design is organised into three distinct decorative sections. The upper and lower areas feature smooth matte terracotta and black bands, precisely defined by fine white lines. The substantial central body is covered in a rich turquoise and teal glaze applied over a deeply incised herringbone pattern.
the glaze settles into the carved decoration, creating remarkable variations in colour, texture and depth. Depending on the light, the surface shifts between turquoise, teal, blue-green and darker mineral tones, giving the vase a particularly tactile and sculptural presence.
the underside bears the hand-incised inscription “handarbeit”, meaning “handcrafted”, together with the number “25”, corresponding to its nominal production height. The combination of its substantial terracotta body, graphic banded decoration, deeply textured glaze and handwritten workshop markings is characteristic of high-quality west german studio pottery from this period.
based on its form, materials and decorative language, the vase is attributed to bay keramik. As no clearly legible factory name or original paper label survives, the attribution is presented with appropriate caution.

excellent vintage condition. The vase has been exceptionally well preserved and is free from chips, cracks, hairlines, structural damage or restorations.
the deeply incised decoration and turquoise glaze remain vibrant and well defined. The upper rim and base ring are clean and show no significant impact marks. Minor tonal and surface variations are inherent to its handcrafted production and contribute to its authentic character.
