The lamp … Read more A striking Italian arc floor lamp dating from the 1970s, combining minimalist Space Age design with elegant proportions. The lamp features a substantial cylindrical base finished in white laminate with polished chrome trim, from which rises a gracefully sweeping chromed steel arch supporting a large white opaline glass shade.

The generous arc allows the light to project over seating or tables without the need for ceiling suspension, making it both a practical and sculptural addition to an interior. The softly rounded opaline glass diffuser emits a warm, even light, while the slender chrome arch creates a dramatic cantilevered silhouette characteristic of Italian lighting design from the period.

The lamp retains its original manufacturer's instruction label inside the base, which explains the ingenious ballast system used to stabilise the lamp. The Italian text reads:

"Allentare il finalino, togliere il coperchio e riempire gli appositi sacchetti di sassi, sabbia, ghiaia, ecc., rimettere il coperchio in metallo e dopo averlo bloccato con il finalino, appoggiare il piano di laminato avendo cura di far entrare il finalino nell'apposita nicchia."

Translated, this instructs the owner to “loosen the finial, remove the lid, and fill the supplied internal bags with stones, sand or gravel before replacing and securing the metal lid. The laminate top is then positioned, ensuring the finial locates into its corresponding recess.” This clever arrangement allowed the substantial base to be shipped empty and weighted on installation, reflecting the thoughtful engineering found in Italian lighting design of the era.

CONDITION

In Excellent Vintage Condition. Minor age related wear consistent with its period. The opaline glass shade is free from chips or cracks, and the lamp is fully wired, in working order, and ready for use. Please refer to the photographs for details of condition.
