The … Read more A finely rendered Biedermeier "Zimmerbild" (interior room portrait) by Wilhelm Rehlen, signed and dated 1820 in ink lower left. The composition depicts a grand columned salon with an elaborately molded ceiling, gilt architrave detail, and trompe l'oeil painted curtain-views opening onto river and garden landscapes. A figure is seated at a piano beneath the window light, surrounded by fine period furnishings rendered in meticulous, almost architectural detail — the hallmark of this genre, popular in Vienna and the German states in the early 19th century for documenting fashionable domestic interiors. Presented under glass in a mahogany veneer frame with triple mat.
