Substantially constructed in oak, the cabinet features a large removable glass top, glass display panels, a distinctive interior slatted wood shelf (individual slatted pieces), rear sliding wood access panels with recessed brass-tone pulls, and a spacious lower storage compartment. The ventilated slatted interior and overall configuration are consistent with period commercial display cabinets used by tobacconists and other retailers, including cigar and humidor showcases.

At approximately 42 inches high, this is a particularly versatile size for residential or commercial interiors. Beyond its original retail function, it would make a wonderful home bar or liquor display, collectibles cabinet, shop counter, museum-style display case, or statement storage piece.

The oak retains a warm, beautifully aged surface with the variations in color, wear, marks and patina expected from many decades of commercial use. Rather than detracting from the piece, these characteristics give the cabinet the authentic character of an early mercantile fixture.

The removable top glass is original or period and shows substantial surface scratching and wear, including areas of concentrated scratching, as well as a chip/loss at one corner. The chip does not extend across the pane as a visible traveling crack. Additional age-related wear is present throughout the wood, including scratches, scuffs, finish variation, darkened areas, small marks and evidence of historic use. Please review photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description.

No maker’s mark, label or identifying numbers were found on the accessible areas of the cabinet. Due to its substantial weight, the underside has not been inspected.

Condition

Good antique condition with significant age-appropriate wear.

The cabinet is structurally substantial and retains extensive original character and patina. Wood surfaces show scratches, scuffs, marks, finish wear, discoloration and other evidence of age and commercial use. The removable glass top has considerable surface scratching and a chipped/lost area at one corner. Additional wear may be present to the glass consistent with age.

The piece has been intentionally left in its aged state rather than refinished in order to preserve its historic surface and character.
