A magnificent Art Nouveau vase by Victor Saglier. The vase has an oval body, slightly flattened at the sides, made of amber-colored granulated glass and decorated with gilt bronze or ormolu, inspired by nature and characteristic of Art Nouveau. The decoration is found on a metal band with engraved plant motifs. The base features reliefs of leaves, branches, and lilies. Saglier's signature, consisting of the artist's initials and a small boat, is engraved on the base.
Victor Saglier (1809-1894)
A prestigious French goldsmith and ceramist, he developed his artistic career at the end of the 19th century. His pieces combine glass and metals, allowing him to create plant and fantastical motifs characteristic of Art Nouveau. He collaborated with artists such as Louis Majorelle and Emile Gallé.
