This substantial hollow-cast sculpture features a highly expressive face with raised forehead markings, large stylized eyes, detailed ears and facial features, and an exceptionally elaborate architectural-style headdress. Braided and beaded details extend around the crown and sides of the head, while numerous intentionally formed openings are incorporated around the lower perimeter and other areas of the casting.

The surface has a wonderfully aged dark bronze/brass appearance with extensive gold-toned patina, oxidation, rubbing and surface variation that gives the piece tremendous character.

No maker's signature or identifying marks were found. Exact origin and date are unknown. Based on construction and style, this appears to be a vintage 20th-century decorative or ceremonial-style casting rather than an early historical Benin court bronze.

Condition: Good vintage condition with substantial age-related patina, oxidation, surface wear, casting irregularities and areas of finish loss throughout. Numerous openings are present in the casting, many of which appear intentional and integral to its construction/design. A substantial and visually compelling piece of African-inspired sculptural art with excellent texture, patina and display presence.
