An original chromolithograph of an attractive Pointer standing alert in an open field, signed "P. Mahler" in the stone at lower right. From a French series of sporting-dog portraits illustrated by Paul Mahler in the 1930s, prized for their lively draughtsmanship and soft, naturalistic color.
What sets this piece apart is the framing. The chromolithograph is beautifully presented in a deep green wash-line mount with fine gilt ruled lines, set in an elegant green-and-gilt molding giving it a gallery quality treatment that lifts it above a typical framed print. The white and liver sporting dog set against the light blues and greens sit perfectly against its dark green mount.
