This is a magnificent Chinese gilt bronze sculpture of Guanyin (Avalokitesvara), the Bodhisattva of Compassion.
The deity is depicted seated in serene meditation (dhyanasana) with hands resting in her lap, atop a double-lotus pedestal. She is adorned with an elaborate, five-leaf ornate crown and draped in flowing robes with beautifully rendered folds. The face exhibits a calm, meditative expression with downcast eyes. The original gilt finish shows a beautiful aged patina with traces of red paint visible in the recesses.
The sculpture is heavy, solid, and well-cast, displaying fine attention to detail from the jewelry on her chest to the intricate lotus petals of the base. A stunning piece for any collector of Asian antiques, Buddhist art, or as a focal point in an elegant interior.
