An exceptional and highly decorative Charles II style leather-covered coffer or traveling trunk, constructed around a substantial wooden carcass and retaining an impressive combination of elaborate brass-studded ornament, wrought-iron mounts, fitted lower drawers, and a richly lined interior.
Evoking the luxurious traveling coffers produced for aristocratic and courtly households in Restoration England, the trunk is remarkable for the density and sophistication of its surface decoration. The rich brown leather has developed a deep, beautifully varied patina, providing a dramatic ground for the extensive metalwork.

Brass-Studded Decoration
