A striking large-scale contemporary painting depicting four stylized female musicians in a vibrant Cuban street scene. Signed “HERMES” at the lower right.
Rendered in a bold Neo-Cubist manner, the composition features dramatically angular figures playing percussion and string instruments against a richly colored architectural backdrop. A domed building resembling Havana’s iconic Capitolio rises in the distance, reinforcing the work’s distinctly Cuban and Caribbean character.
The painting’s exact place of execution is unknown. Its Cuban subject matter and Havana architectural imagery suggest that it may have been painted in Cuba, but there is currently no documentation confirming the location. It should not be described as having been painted in Havana or Cuba without further provenance or artist verification.
The artist employs a powerful palette of fiery orange, red and yellow balanced by charcoal black, gray and ivory. Strong graphic outlines, fractured geometric forms and elongated figures give the composition exceptional movement and visual presence.
The musical subject matter celebrates the rhythm, culture and energy associated with Cuban life. At more than 4 1/2 feet wide, the painting makes an impressive statement piece for a living room, dining room, music room, bar, restaurant or contemporary interior.
Presented in a substantial simple black frame that complements the strong graphic quality of the artwork. An Aaron Brothers Custom Framing at Michaels “White Glove Promise” inspection label remains on the reverse.
