Striking monumental pair of vintage Empire Revival decorative wall panels featuring elaborate classical urns rendered in warm gilt against a dramatic deep black lacquered ground.
Each substantial panel measures approximately 66 inches high by 24 inches wide, creating an impressive architectural presence when displayed together, flanking a doorway, console, fireplace, or positioned separately within a large interior.
The surfaces feature a distinctive textured, crackled treatment that gives the black ground considerable depth and character. Elaborately detailed classical urns rise from architectural pedestal bases, highlighted throughout in aged gold gilt. Swan-form handles, scrolling ornament, foliate detailing and a flame-form finial contribute to the strong Neoclassical and Empire influence.
The shaped architectural tops further enhance their impressive vertical proportions. Each panel retains metal hanging hardware on the reverse.
Particularly attractive is the naturally aged finish. Areas of gilt loss, rubbing and surface variation expose different tones beneath the decoration, creating an authentic time-worn appearance rather than the uniform finish of contemporary reproductions.
