An unusual antique Chinese carved quartz figure later converted into a table lamp, most likely during the 1930s. The pale translucent quartz is intricately carved with figures and naturalistic details and rests on its original carved rosewood stand.
The quartz sculpture is mounted on an elaborate chased bronze base with finely worked decorative borders. Most notably, the quartz is illuminated internally, allowing light to pass through the translucent stone and revealing the carving and natural variations within the material.
The lamp retains a wonderfully decorative early conversion and is operated by a click switch. The electrical cord is in very good condition for its age and may have been replaced at some point.
